dish-shaped, and spherical crown elliptical heads are also commonly called convex elliptical heads. It is used in various container equipment, such as storage tanks, 

heat exchangers, towers, reactors, heating furnaces and separation equipment.

The elliptical head is a head composed of a rotating elliptical sphere and a cylindrical straight section. If the pipe is not going to be extended at the end, the elliptical head can be welded to the pipe and used as an end. Or it can be used on a pressure vessel, with a head on the top and bottom, and a straight pipe section in the middle, as a tank for the pressure vessel.

The deformation of the elliptical head is caused by the inconsistency between the large piece of the disc and the actual thickness of the joint itself, the uneven punching force or the uneven heat and cold during heat treatment. Solution: The principle of thermal expansion and contraction can be used to heat the deformed head, and then quickly cool it with water, or it can be corrected by spinning.

The scratches on the elliptical head are mainly caused by improper operation during transportation. For example: hook scratches, forklift scratches. Solution: First, pad the protective film on the contact surface between the hook and forklift and the head. After scratches, polish them, and perform repair welding for severe ones. If the scratch area exceeds 25%, it must be treated as a whole.

How to increase the thinning rate of the elliptical head? The uniform thickness of the formed head can avoid stress concentration and increase the service life of the head. The processing allowance is determined according to the manufacturing process to ensure that the thickness of the convex head and the hot roll section after forming is not less than the nominal thickness of the component minus the negative deviation of the steel plate.

Most of the orange peel phenomenon of the elliptical head is due to the stratification of the plate itself, but it cannot be observed by the naked eye. The orange peel phenomenon can only be discovered during the stamping and drum pressing process. Solution: The relatively shallow orange peel phenomenon can be cleaned by fine grinding. The deeper one needs to be repaired by welding and then polished.
